Hope in the midst of horror.
This is about the most vultnerable children of Sierra Leone.
In the 11 year civil war, thousands of children lost their families. Poverty continues to wrack the country, especially the mothers and children
This is a record of my journeys to Bo and beyond, to support these young people on their own journey.
Please read on and find it in your heart and means to help.
Thank you.
For now this blog is about the poverty of Sierra Leone; however, to give context to why I'm involved and how I found myself (dare I say "God-called"?), here is my story so far:
I served 20-years in the USAF; flew and worked command and control.
But I also have a BA in Religion and Philosophy, an MA focusing on Communications, Human Development and Family Studies. I'm a seminary dropout (twice!) and worked as a United Methodist youth outreach minister.
One USAF tour was with the RAF which included supporting the 2000 stabilization efforts in Sierra Leone.
In 2005, when I heard the UM Bishop of Sierra Leone explain the needs of the Child Rescue Center in Bo: I felt assurance within my heart that this work was in the cards for me.
Jesue Followers are taught to serve, especially the most vulnerable.
I will also try to serve via this blog: to share joys and struggles, to get your attention and find the others called to support or serve.
Please read on and support us as your heart speaks to you.
Most Sincerely Yours on the Journey,
Derek
